Metal Gear Rising takes place in 2018, Sunny returns

In the Metal Gear Rising Revengeance flyer that was being distributed at TGS, are a few characters listed. One of them is still a silhouette, but the name below it reads ‘Sunny’. This seems to confirm the appearance of the character in the game.

The pamphlet also confirms the year the game takes place in, which is 2018, four years after Metal Gear Solid 4.

That would make Sunny 10 or 11 years old in Rising. Solid Snake will already have passed away by this time, and it was confirmed earlier he won’t make an appearance in the game.

      I think that’s safe to say, yes. And since the developers already confirmed he won’t be in Rising, that makes it seem even more likely.

        That is based on what is said in MGS4. Of course they could change it, but assuming they use the storyline presented in that game, he would be dead.

    I don’t remember , but is Rising cannonical or not? If so… R.I.P Snake, my favorite character ever. Too bad if his death is only offscreen. :(

      It’s still unclear. I would think it isn’t, since it strays so much from the main series, but I’m not sure.

            Yeah, i believe Kojima only mentioned that he is not done with Solid Snake yet. Wich means that maybe there will be another MGS with him, not exactly a sequel to MGS4 with Snake.

            That’s more of what I meant towards him. Yes, Snake will be in MGS5, but it doesn’t mean it takes place after MGS4. I’m guessing it’s going to be a much younger Snake. Kojima never said Snake is STILL alive.

      It is cannon, and snake is still alive because he will be in mgs5. After seeing all the things that happen in the metal gear universe, it would be really naive to think that snake could not be cured, specially after the ending in mgs4

        I don’t think MGS5 will be set after MGS4. I believe it will be a prequel to the series as Ground Zeroes is a prequel to 5. Just like MGS3 events happened way before MGS1 and MGS2. Prequel or sequel, i want to play with Solid Snake again. But a prequel or a remake to MG and MG2 make more sense.

        What is there to cure? He dies of old age, he just ages much more quickly. That said, Solid Snake could still be in MGS5, because we don’t know when that game will take place.

        There is nothing to cure, dude. Do your research. Go and play MGS4 again. It’s clearly stated that Snake was genetically made to age faster, Liquid as well. He’s not sick, he’s dying of accelerated aging. No one can control that, it’s how Snake was created. So, please reconsider what you’re saying before you post.

          I think that Heavenly_King maybe meant a cure to FoxDie, not to aging.

        So you’re assuming that MGS5 will be after MGS4 with Snake in it. Like I told you, he’s not sick, he’s dying of accelerated aging. Something beyond ANYONES control. So the likelihood of MGS5 taking place after MGS4 is very unlikely.

    MGS4 was 10 years after MGS2. Sunny should be 10 years old during MGS4 and 14-15 in Rising

      No, Sunny was born sometime between 2008. She is only 6 in MGS4.
      MGS4 = 2014
      MGS2 = 2007-2009

      I dont think that ever said exactly how old she was at the start of mgs2. However the start of mgs2 takes place 2 years before the end of mgs2. so at the end of mgs2 she should be approximately 3 yrs of age, unless the patriots kidnapped sunny and the tanker incident took place right after that. Assume tanker incident was 6 months after sunny was born, plus the 2 year span….for the sake of sounding real they would say 2 years, instead of lets say….2 years 4 months….in which case sunny could be approx 3 at the end of mgs2. Add 5 years worth of span between mgs2 and 4, sunny would be at least at years of age, heading towards 9.

        In the tanker incident she wans’t even born yet, as Sergei tells Olga that she is carrying his granddaughter. Olga din’t even started to look pregnant at the time.

    Rising is a spinoff. It has nothing to do with the metal gear solid storyline.

    Snake is still alive. Kojima himself said that even though he wanted to kill snake he did not do it. He will be in mgs5, not ground zeroes. Ground zeroes is setting the background story for mgs5. And snake will be there. I bet the bad guys will be the chinesse philosophers

      Kojima said that the series ended with MGS4. Rising is just a spin off, and canonical or not, in MGS4 it’s kind of clear that Snake won’t live long after the ending. As Ground Zeroes is so many years before even Shadow Moses, being a prequel to MGS5 means that MGS5 itself will probably be prequel to the series with a younger Solid Snake.

      Dude, you need to understand something. Even if Snake is in MGS5, it will take place in the story before MGS4. If you REMEMBER, Snake is dying of accelerated aging to due to his genetic code from the “Les Enfantes Terribles” project. No illness, it’s how he was made. So, Snake will be dying soon after the events of MGS4.

      Also, where is it that Kojima says that Ground Zeroes is a prologue for MGS5? I’m sure it probably will be, but I know of no source where it says that. So If Snake IS in MGS5, that you claim that he will be in, it will be a young Snake. WAY before MGS4.

        Before you respond, I looked up that Kojima did say something that Ground Zeroes is something like a prequel for MGS5 and Snake will be in MGS5. But, other than that, you thinking MGS5 will take place after MGS4 is nonsense. MGS5 will be probably be a prequel to the series, just like GZ is for MGS5. We will play as a young Snake. Snake is going to die of old age, regardless of the Foxdie in his system.

    When all is said and done, MGS5 will answer most questions regarding Snake’s status but till then we got just speculations.

    Snake’s dna will somehow be rewritten,and he’ll be young again.Either that or his consciousness will be placed into another body. This is my theory anyways.Look at how liquid managed to survive IN A FUCKING ARM no less.

    okay number 1:
    Metal Gear Rising is a total spin off and does not patarn to the actual story at all
    Number 2:
    Liquid never took over ocelots body ocelot made everyone think that to trick the patriots
    Number 3 and most importantly: Kojima Stated him self Even though he wanted to let snake die in mgs4 snake is still alive.

      It depends on how you define ‘took over’. I had the idea Ocelot couldn’t just ‘switch off’ Liquid in MGS4, so in a way, yes, he took over. Just not in the way they introduced the plot element in MGS2.
